COLONEL SYMONS' GALLANT REPLY.
COMPLETE REPULSE OF THE BOERS. STORMING THE HEIGHTS—A MARVELLOUS FEAT. Colonel Symons ordered the 13th, 67th, and 69th batteries into action. Splendid shooting practice was made, the majority of the Boer guns being dismounted within an hour, causing consternation in their ranks. Many Boers descended the slopes, and the infantry and cavalry were ordered forward, to prevent these men from getting behind Glencoe, another section preventing the enemy's connection with the main column at Danhausen. The 2nd Dublin Fusiliers, Ist King's Royal Rifles, and Ist Lekesters advanced under cover of the artillery, and, taking advantage of the cover, splendidly stormed an almost impregnable height. It wae a marvellous feat, somewhat the counterpart of Majuba Hill, and the storming of the heights of Spicheren by the Germane in the Franco-Prnaeaa war. Advancing in waves of ddnnishes, their difficulties began at the foot of tiie mountain. The Boer marksmen were well posted and the Britishers dropped fast. The enemy for tie moment were disposed to sUed, but a section outflanked them, and drove them wildly down lull for tie main road. Tue Boers fled precipitately, their guns being captured. The cavalry, mounted infantry, and a few field guns pursued the enemy towards Buffalo River. During the root many surrendered. Tfae battle beted five hours.
