UNITED v. LANCASTER PARK.
With, three wickete down, for 95, the U.C.C. resumed with Clark, the not oat, and Frankish. The former played the first ball on, but on Harman joining Frankish the stand of the innings was made. In less than an hour the score was taken to 188, and Frankish was then clean bowled by Wilding, jun., after playing dashing cricket for 47. Harman left soon after with 55 to his credit. His runs were made is his best style, bis play all round being sound, and his cutting really superb. Smith's contribution was very streaky, but Boddington, Harper and Ollivier all got into doubles by good play. The Park bowlers were knocked about with great disrespect, and it was not until A. Wilding, the seventh bowler tried, went on, that tbe runs were Kept down. The colt trundled splendidly and with plenty of twist, frequently beating the batsmen. The fielding, as on the first day, was rather alack. With less than an hour to bat the Lancastrians loet four wickets for 49, A. E. Ridley being not out with 34. Messrs Gerard and Spencer were again the umpires. The following axe the scores: —- LANCASTER PARK. First innings .. .. ... .> 109 Second Innings. A. E. Ridley, .not out ; .. ,« .. 34 S. In this match, the Midlanders jhad made 167 and Sydenham 64. The latter, on following on, made a promising start} the first two men, Reese and HaUey, sending tbe century up before they were parted. But after they left a rot set in, and Love was the only one of tbe remainder to make any stand. Two men were absent, and the innings clesed ; for 169. Halley made his runs by sound. defence combined with full and powerful hit- j ting, a chance in the deep field being the only blemish. Reese also played good and ; attractive cricket for bie runs, though, an j umpire's mistake gave him a second life] when fie was caught at the wicket. Love j showed promising form .in compiling his 32, : his driving being clean and bard. Dan j Reese trundled with great effect, and got the • fine average of six wickets for 24. The field- ' ing of tbe Bhie and Whites was again good. > Requiring 67 to win, the M.C.C. made a poor start, Reese, Cobcroffc, Wißxm and Weir all leaving in quick succession. Sydenham, then bad a bit of bad luck, for, on Wheatfcy joining Barry, and with only 30 on the board, Berry was caugHt at the wicket, and was given not out. The two batemen. then knocked off the remainder of tire runs without further loss. Barry was at his best in making his 35, and Wheatley also batted well. As in the first innings, Malone was the best of the bowlers, and was. supported by good fielding. Messrs Hariey and Turner were tbe umpires. The following are the •cores: — ■■■ . MTOLAND.
