"Good Roais" draws attention to the peculiar methods of road making in vogue in the West fyreton district, where loose ebingle is being pkced on a good road. "GriHi" writes to say that while a tJgh standard of excellence has been reached and is being maintained by our volunteer corps, tbe men are still sadly lacking in some points of discipline, and goes on to point out that at a recent choreh parade there was laughing and talking in 4ha ranks. This was not .only "had form, but contrary to orders. It woeld be better if the volunteers would show that they listened in tbe honour of the service. "Ratepayer" asks when the Avon Road Board intends to form and shingle a portion cf Cemetery roid, which it promised to do some time a^o. "MiMicaL" writing in reference to band contests, suggests that there should *lso be orchestra or string band contests to encourage them to keep up their practice. "Lover of Cricket" confesses disappointment that the Victorian team are unable to come to New Zealand this year, and suggests that a Tasmanian team or the second N.S.W. team should bo invited. "Church Member" protests against the manner in which the new Presbyterian church is being erected at HoreJey Downs, and states that although at a meeting held at Mason's Fl*t it w»s decided to postpone the building of a church certain members had sinpo takwi steps to canvass for subscriptions and call another meeting, at which it was decided to proceed wrth the erection of a churcn at Horsley Down, although the majority of the congregation live within convenient distance of Mason's Flat.
