The legal manager (Mr H. A. Bruce) of j the Alpha Gold Mining received the following telegram from Mr Macdonald, on his return from the mine on Saturday morning:—"Fourteen ounces odd gold, can't follow prospector'a drive onj account of creek. Things looking welL plenty of water." | Mr H. A. Bruce, 140 Hereford street, has . been appointed secretary to tye Reeves" s Proprietary Gold Dredging Company, Limited, in place of Mr P. Hoi re, resigned. Upwards of 130 gold dredgin J companies, , says the "Otago Daily Times,' have been registered since the beginning jof the year, j and there are about thirty othecg on the mar- I ket at tbe present time* ■; The "Hokotika Guardian" j states that orders for two dredges for tlteJ West Coast have been placed in Wellington. Messrs W. L. Page and G.\S\ Mollison, says,the Dunedin "Star," havp invented'a vessel, which they claim will enable the bed of a river to be laid bare to the foen working, bhe is a sharp-ended dredge of iron, witn. very high sides, and .the idea & to sink her j by means of water ballast until she rests on j the bed of the river, tar deck] being out of i water. . ; At the first meeting of the shareholders of the Greenstone Junction, Gold Dredging Company,! held in Kumara on! Wednesday, J the following were •appointed directors: — , Dr. Scott, Messrs M'llroy, Johnston, Molloy end Burger. ■Mγ W. Gilbert -was appointed legal manager. *!'
