THE BALLOON ASCENT.

TO THE EDrrOK OT THE PBK33. Sir, —In comanon with thousands of others I witnessed', free of charge. Captain Lorra:ne's two daring parachute descents, and great spectacular treats they were. I did not go to I*na_ster Park arid part'with a "bob," simply oecause I could witness the ■wonderful performances from my verandah without the trouble of walking a cpupie of miles to the Park. I understand the takings at the Park barely paid experrsas. and I fed I have taken a somewhat mean advantage of the gallant and intrepid man who risked his life in livelihood merely to afford mc pleasure and amusement, and I feel I am under an obligation to him, and am in duty bound to pay my share of Lis expenses. That my feelings on, this matter are shared by many others, w<ho are in a similar predicament to myself, I have no doubt I believe the Captain object, to tbe idea of a subscription being started as savouring too much of Tahrity, and to obviate this d_fficulty I would suggest that tickets for hi. next balloon ascent bo placed for sale in town so that we outsiders can contribute our share, and I shall be only too pleased to pay up what I consider my arrears by taking three tickets for bis next show. —Your., etc., CONSCIENCE SMITTEN.
