DETERMINED TO REACH THE TRANSVAAL.
The spirit of adventure or patriotism was strongly manifested by an _nrwr__rgill youth on (Monday night When he adopted a most determined _Aam to reach the Bluff, where, he imagined, die could get on board the W«_—era for the Cape, and from thence make ihis way to the Transvaal. A resident at Seaward Mass (says the "South__od Tames") was ccwaikened out of his ff.eep at 4 o'clock on Tuesday rooraing by vigorous knockinigs at the door. The wanderer, when he was invited to enter, told his host that he was rnaikmg for the Bluff and had lost the road. As water was coring out of every part of ibis clothing and the morning was a cold one he was given a bed mad this clothes were dried. It was while .n the company of the youths of the househoM that he unburdened his mind and gave his reasons for beJng in his present plight. Ever since the trouble in the Transvaal had started 'he had been consum-d with a desire to fight the Boers. He offered his services to make one of the contingent, but was refused as he was too young. He had therefore determined to w__c to the Bluff to try to work h's passage to the Cape, but as the night was very dark (he left Invercargill at midnight) he had taken the wrong turning. His hospitable friend _&i_rw_rd_ conveyed him to Woodend that he might catch the Bluff train.
