PROGRESSIVE LIBERAL ASSOCIATION.
At the annual meeting of the Progressive Liberal Association on Monday evening, a resolution was carried unanimously, "This Association, while' sympathising with the desire of the Chejpot settlers to nave through railway communication with Chrictcluirch, will strongly protest against the expenditure of public money on <a railway which will greatly enhance the value of certain large private estates, either until a Bill for applying the betterment system to these estates tuts beeti passed," or until the Government lias secured a pre-emptive right to purchase, at thecr present value, all private lands through which the proposed railway will run." The election of officers and committee resulted as follows: —Preiident, Mr W. Ensom; vice-presidents, Mrs Mason, Miss Comrie, Messrs R. Ellison and S. Billcliff; treasurer, Mr J. Bowlker; committee, Sitesdames Atkinson, Clarkson, Blake, Enstrai, Foster, McCready, Howarth, Squires and Williams. Misses Comrie and B. Henderson, Messrs H. Atkinson, J. Abraham, R. Barter, W. Dobbs, R. B. Ellison, E. Eastwood, G. Franklyn, E. Gill, McMeekan, J. Rhodes, and F* Yates. . i ■
