(Before R. Beetham, Esq., S.M.) Drunkenness. —H. B. Boys was fined 10s, or forty-eight hours, for th:s_offence. Maintenance.—Jcs. Ayres was ordered to pay 4s a week towards the support of hisiilegitimate child. Mr Donnelly appeared fer the mother, and Mr Cresswell ior the defendant.—The casa of Geo. Bertram, for disobeying a maintenance order, was adjourned for three weeks, an arrangement having been come to between counsel for an immediate payment. Wednesday, September 13. (Before J. M. Dougktss and A. Marshall, Esqrs., J.P.«). i Drunkenness. —John KeEy was fined \ 10s, or forty-eight hours. John Wills was • charged with drunkenness and breaking a : pane of glass, value 12s, the property of Wm. Armigex, Oxford terrace. Accuse/! was fined 5a for drunkenness, and stated that the damage had been repaired. He was fined 5s and costs for committing the damage. Annie Wilbert, also charged with drunkenness, was fined ss, in default the usual alternative. Alleged Watch Stealing.—Albert Ntcholls, on warrant and remand, was charged with having on August 15th stolen cne lady's gold keyless watch, and one gentleman's silver watch, value £7, the property of H. G. Shepherd. Sub-Inspector O'Brien prosecuted,, and •Mγ Donnelly appeared for the accused. The case for the prosecution was that on the 14th August accused got the watches to attend to them, as they were not working well, and promised to return-in, two days. He did not do so, and pledged them at a pawnbroker's, for 12s bd on the s3ver and £1 on the gold one, giving his""name as-Albert Nicholls, Christchurch, watchmaker. reserved his defence and was committed for trial. —The accused was then.charged with having on 9th May, stolen a watch, value £1 10s, the property of Alex. SkilLng. Mr Donnelly said the accused wished that all the cases should be dealt with by the Judge. The circumstances were very peculiar, the watches having been disposed of under pressure of extreme want. If asked to plead the plea would be "Not guilty." On the application of the police a remand was granted until Friday.—Accused was further charged with, having on the same day stolen a lady's hunting watch, value £25, the property of Mrs A. B. Fraser. On the application of the police, to which Mr Donnelly offered no objection, this case was also remanded until Friday. False Pretences.—Thos. Edward Weir, a young man, was charged :With having, on Ist.December,. 1897, andj sth January, 1898, obtained £51 worth of «ba.mps by means of false pretences, from T. -J. Maling.. Mr G. T. Weston, who said jbe was acting "for Mr T. S. Weston, asked i_for a remand. The accused, who bad, been employed at Messrs Dalgety and Co., had voluntarily given himself up, and the Bench was asked to admit him to bail in his father's recognisance of £50. The Bench granted the remand, and fixed bail in two sureties of £50 each. Prohibition Order. —A prohibition order was issued against John Chammen, to operate for twelve months, in the Christchurch, Riccarton, Avon, and Lyttelton districts:
