Captain Frederick Charles Doveton Sturdee, who was promoted to a captaincy the other day, for service in Samoa, was for- / roerly one of the assistants to the Director of Naval Ordnance. He was naval cadet in Jnly, 187- ; midshipman, July 19th, 1873 5 ... sub-ueutenint, June 9th, 1878; lieutenant, February 7tb, 1880; and commander, Juno 30th, 1893. He was lieutenant of the Heck at the bombardment of Alexandria, July Uth, 1882, and during the Egyptian war ~Was awarded decoration Egyptian medal, Alexandria clasp, and Khedive's bronze star. Captain Sturdee received the gold medal of the Royal United Service Tastitution for the year 1886, and again for the year 1894.
