PIGEON SHOOTING.
—: A series of pigeon shooting sweepstakes, which took place at Cbalgate 6h"j Saturday, resulted as , follows :— No. 1 Sweepstake, nve bird rise C. Napier (Hororata), 23yds, and W. Beanman (Kimberley), 21yds, killed all their birds and divided the stakes; J. Powell (Hororata), 23yds, and J. Johnston (Rakaia),;24yds, killed four; and several others were close up with three each. There were.fifteen entries. No. 2 Sweep—C. A. Tomlinson (Kfrwee), 25yds, and W. Beaumair;(Kimberle > y), 23yds, tied and divided first?'wat?d \ second _prizes ;J. Burgess (Dunsaßffel); 25yd8,,"F. J; Hill (Dunsandel), 22yds, 21yds, L, Beau23yds, and Greene (RakaiaiG6rc;e)jp2yds, tied for the third and fourth off, ,JL. Beauman securing third money. .Seventeen entered. No. 3 Sweep—Greener 21yds, J. Johnston 22yds, L. Beauman 22yds, D. Roberts 23yds, W. Beaunian 25yds, J. W. Caesin 28yds, and Napier 24yda killed all, and in the shoot off 'Cassin won. There were seven entries. J. Johnston (Methven) and J. W. Cassin {Christchurch) then shot off a private match, whicn resulted in a win for the latter. Messrs J. Burgese, of Dunsandel, and J. W. Cassin, Christchurch, acted as referees during the shooting. It is understood that Mr Harry Potton, licensee of the hotel, intends making this an annual meeting.
