In connection with the Horticultural Show on Friday next at the Avt Gallery, his Worship the Mayor has cinsentod to open tho show at 2 p.m. There should ' be a very fine exhibition Ut the show, the weather being most propitious for the growth of bulbs, &c. Should there be no frosts between now and the date of the show, the display ought to be one of the best ever made under tho auspices of the Society. With a view of meeting the convenience of the school children competing for the bouquets, it has been decided to ( hold the exhibition on Saturday. At a meeting of the committee of the East Christchurch Swimming Club, it wa3 decided to hold the annual meeting on Friday, September 23rd. The draft annual report was approved. It was decided to obtain particulars as to the cost 'of sinking another well.

The speoial prize fund for the Ellesmore Show now amounts to about £120, and as members are vieiug with each other in work* ing up this popular show there should be a record success this year. It has been de> cided to add a elws' to the programme to - allow entries to come from the newly-formed' -' Ellesmere Mounted Rifles.
