ENTERTAINMENTS, &c.
The musical and elosutionary contests under the auspices of the Canterbury Band of Hope Union were continued last night in the Oddfellows' Hall, Licbfield street, when there was a large attendance. The programme included vocal solos, duetts, trios and quartettes, and choir singing. The prize winners for the Monday night competitions were announced to be as under:— Piano solos, class Harper, Richmond Band of Hope, 1; Adeline Pratt, East Belt Band of Hope, 2. Impromptu speeches —Mr T. M. Potter, 1. Recitations, class C—Miss B. A. Judd, Burwood, 1; Miss McKevin, Linwood Congregational, 2 ; Miss Wilson, Woolston, 3. The programme for to-night includes piano 'solos, recitations, flute solos. &c.
The New Zea'and Natives' Association rooms were crowded last night, when the syllabus was varied by a social evening. Mr E. W. Seager entertained the members with a number of sleight-of-hand exhibitions, and songs were sung by members, Miss Jennie West playing the accompaniments. Refreshments were provided by the ladies. A concert was given last night in the Catholic Hall, Barbadoes street, under the auspices of the pro-cathedral choir, in aid of the hall fund. The items in the programme were given by Misses Bryant, A. Hay ward, Falvey, Gardiner, A. Young, Bryant, Messrs C. Read, R. Peterson, Masters F. Cronin, Percy Augarde, the Gervasi Brothers, and the convent children. There was a good attendance, and the concert went excellently. Misses Funston and C. O'Brien acted as accompanists.
