! The half yearly meeting of the North Canterbury District, M.W., was held in the Masonic Hall, Kaikoura, on the 14th inst. Present: —Bros. A. H. Paddy, Prov. G.M.; C. F. King, Prov. D.G.M.; 0. Foster, Prov. C.S., and representatives from lodges as follows:—City of Christchurch, Bro. T. JJ Archbold, P.GK; Kaiapoi, Bro. C. H. Bently, P. 0.; Volunteer, Bros. J. A. Ambrose, N.G., W. Fabian, P.G.; Benevolent, Bros. H. G. Manning, N.G., J. M. Conway, P.G.; Perseverance, 'Bros. W.. Hartshorn, P.S., W. H. Yates, P.G.; Malvern, Bro. D. McMillan, P.G. ;Leeston, Bro. C. C. Smithson, P.P.G.M.; Adding--1 ton, Bra B. P. Manhire, P.G.; Heart of Oak, Bros. W. Baynes, M. Yaley, P.G.s; Tyler, Bro. J. Evans, P.G. The half-yearly balance sheet and auditors' report were received and adopted;' and' outstanding ac- : counts passed for jgayment. When the proposal to appoint a specialist was brought forward, it-was resolved to proceed with the next business. Resolved "That the proportion of t^e.members' contributions set forth in the rules for funeral benefits be collected from the lodges of females to pay funeral claims, and that a separate account of such funds be kept." Resolved "That the management levy on the lodges of females be equal to 75 per cent of the amount levied on lodges of males." Resolved "That the district officers represent this district at the Conference proposed to be arranged by the Lyttelton District.'' The following nominations for district officers were received:—For Prov. G.M., Bro. C. F. King, Prov. D.G.M.; for Deputy, Bros. J. Williamson, W. Johnson, F. J. Caterer, A. W. Amos, D. McMillan, J. W. Bedford, C. H. Bently, J. M. Conway, W. Fabian, T. J. Archbold, Wm. Baynes, E. Holmes, P.G.s, ana D. Kennealy, P. Prov. D.G.M.. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the Heart of Oak Lodge and P.G.'s-Bros. W. Baynes and J. B. Borthwick for the cordial, manner the visitors were received. The district officers and visiting brethren were entertained at a social, when a very enjoyable time was spent. On the 14th inst a Past Grands' Lodge was held, the district officers occupying the various chairs, supported by local brethren. Past officers' degree were con- ' ferred on members presenting the necessary certificates; and on the Grand Masters warrant being read, Bros. Jas. Garrett, A. McDonald, and W. H. Yates were admitted ! to the purple degree.
