AUCKLAND, September 19.
Mahutu, the Maori "King,'' who was to have left to-day by the Gairloch for Wellington, has deferred his departure, and remains in town.
A six-roomed house at Panmure, occupied by B. L. Lock, has been burned down. The furniture was insured in the Alliance Office for £120. The building, which was owned by Mrs Fitzpatrick, was insured for £75 in the London and Liverpool Office and for £40 in the Alliance Office.
Experts' opinion obtained by the Exhibition authorities is that, unless the furnishing of Government House is gone on with at once, it will not be ready for the reception of Lord and Lady Ranfurly. Archdeacon Dudley" is a passenger Dy the Westralia for Sydney, en route to England, for the benefit of his health.
Dr. _if C. Purchas is also a passenger by the Westralia.
