His Grace Archbishop Redwood will visit Darfield to-day, arriving there by the 6 p.m. train. There will be a solemn benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at the church at 7 p.m.

In connection with the spring show of the Christchurch Horticultural Society, which opens in the Art Gallery on Friday next, it is probable that Mr Cockayne will exhibit his magnificent collection of alpine plants. As the collection includes many specimens from the European Alps, the Andes, and Himalayas, as well as a complete New Zealand collection, an opportunity will be afforded to visitors of inspecting the alpine flora from all parts of the globe- ' - " "

The hill climbing championship, which was postponed test Thursday on account of the weather, will take place on Thursday next. There will be a procession of cyclists from the square at 2 p.m. to the Port Hills, in which all unattached riders are invited to take part. No pains are being spared to make the afternoon one of real enjoyment. Afternoon tea will be provided. Special tram arrangements have been made, and should the weather prove * favourable no doubt there will be a large attendance. As has already been stated the camp of instruction in connection with v-e Mounted Corps of Volunteers, viz., the C.V.C. and C.M.R. will open on the Show Grounds, Addington, on October ls^ The Garrison Ball in connection with the Volunteers takes place in the Art Gallery, on Thursday next, 23rd inst. Mr L. J. Lohr, who is well-known throughout New Zealand, has joined Dante as his business manager through Australia. It is understood that Mr Lohr lias, arranged tor a twelve months' tour through Australia with the clever \iilusionist. It is probable that after the trip through Australia Mr Lohr and Professor Dante will visit New Zealand once more. If they do it goes without saying that they will receive a very hearty welcome from amusement lovers here.

At a meeting of the Committee of the Natives' Association, it was decided- that the ladies should be asked to supply refreshments to-night, when a social gathering will be held. Mr E, W. Seager, intimated that he would give a sleight-of-hand entertainment. Messrs Cowper and Clarkson were constituted a sub-committee to inquire into the possibilities of, holding a sports meeting at Lancaster Park later in the year. The programme for the social evening to be given to-night includes cards, games, musio, and refreshments.

The projectors of the Floral Fete for this year are endeavouring to enlist the sympathies of the Boating Clubs in connection with it. At the meeting on Friday next, in connection with the renewal ot the fete, the various Boating Clubs will be asked to, send representatives. As the work-is. for the benefit of the rowing men generally, there is no doubt they will do their best to make the fete a success.

Arrangements have been made for a concert in connection with the fund for the Catholic Hall, which will take place at anearly date. Miss Funston ia the musical directress, and a very attractive programme has been arranged. ' A meeting of delegates from Rowing Clubs will be held on Thursday evening, to consider what steps oan be taken with reference to the improvement of the River Avon. _ *

A concert will be given in the Catholic Hall, Barbadoes street, to-night, under the auspices of the Pro-cathedral choir, in aid of .the hall fund. The items on the programme will be given by Misses Hayward, Falvey, Gardiner and Bryant, Messrs 0; Read, A. F. Young, J. and R. Peterson, Gervajsi Bros. Two items will also be given by the Pro-Cathedral choir; .-'.'-..

The adjourned meeting of those coming to the colony by the .Zealandia will take place to-morrow evening at the Zetland Arms Hotel. .

The special popular lecture- on "The New Darwinism" will be delivered by Captain F. W. Hutton, F.R.S., in the Chemistry Lecture Theatre to-morrow night, under the auspices of the Philosophical Institute of Canterbury. The annual meeting of the Sydenham Amateur Swimming Club will be held at the Sydenham Chambers to-morrow evening at eight o'clock.
