POISONED BY COCAINE.

The death of Dr. Williams through the alleged mistake of a chemist has been before the Courts in the shape of an action by his widow against the chemist, Jas. Christopher, for £3000 damages for the loss of her husband. The mistake was made by Christopher's son, who gave the doctor atropine instead of the morphia for which he asked. The doctor gave his patient atropine beyond a doubt, but she recovered, and it was believed that he also took atropine. The evidence, however, was in favour of his death having resulted from cocaine poisoning. He had been a confirmed morphia taker, and later on took cocaine largely, and after ha gave the injection to his patient she saw aim prepare the syringe afresh and charge it from another.packet. This is believed to have been cocaine, and the medical evidence was that the symptoms were those of cocainepoisoning. The jury found in favour of the chemist, with costs.
