LINWOOD.
The ordinary meeting of the Linwood Borough Council was held last evening. Pre-sent—-Crs. -F. Board (presiding), A. Ayers, Joseph Taylor, J. R. Brunt, H. Pearce, Jno. Taylor, and J. Jameson. Apologies for absence were received from Crs. Cleworth and Marshall. A letter was read from Mrs Piercy, accepting the Council's offer in reference to the widening ofStanmore road, and it was decided to nave the work proceeded with at once. Mr W .W. Tanner, M.H.R., wrote in regard to obtaining a recreation ground for the borough, and the chairman reported that steps had been taken to procure a piece of unoccupied Crown land to assist the Council in purchasing a piece of land for recreation purposes. A communication was received from the Valuer-General in regard to alterations in the valuation roll, and it was decided to reply protesting against the heavy charges
made against the borough for the recent valuations.
The Finance Committee reported the receipts since last meeting £308 ls, and the debit balance at the Bank £1061 10s 7d. The committee recommended that accounts to the amount of £365 9s 9d be passed lor payment. The report was adopted. Reports were also read and udopted from the Works Committee and the Inspector. It was decided to take action in certain cases of breaches of the by-law reported on by the Inspector. It was decided to draw the attention of the police to coses of reckless driving through the streets of loose horses.
The question of floating the footways with tar and grit was referred to the Works Committee to report. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr. Brunt, seconded by Cr. Pearce—"That a committee bo appointed to report on the advisableness of adopting tho Rating ou the Unimproved Values Act.
