ROAD BOARDS.
LINCOLN.
The ordinary meeting ol this Board was held on the sth inst. --Present—Messrs J. W. Overton (cmirnian), H. E. Peryman, and James Sinclair Mr P. Henley wrote apologising for absence. Mr Kennedy interviewed the Beard re the reserve fronting his land, which the Board had recently acquired, and asked them to _orego~their claim to it so that he could purchase it. He would be prepared to hand over what the Board required for the read. The Chairman said that the matter would be considered at a full meeting. Correspondence was read and dealt with. It was resolved to invite tenders for improving part ot the Tancred and Halswell road, and for carting clay on the Ellesmei-e road. Accounts, £328, were passed for payment. CUST. The monthly meeting of this Board was held on the 12th inst. Present —Messrs, W. E. Conway (chairman), Catherwood, and Kingsbury. A letter from the Valuation Department notified that this Board's -hare of the cost ot making tbe valuation was £47 2s 3d, and asked for the payment of the first half of the same, £23 lis 2d. It was decided to pay under protest. Aii Kingsbury reported that he had, with the Clerk, inspected the. bridges and fords that required to be built, and gave an estimate of the cost. The Clerk was instructed tc write to certain owners asking them to remove willows and gorse. Tenders foi various works were received, and the lowest in each case accepted. RAKAIA. This Board met- on the 12th September. Present—Sir Join.- Hall (chairman), Messrs Bealey, Westenra, and Buckley. An account \va- received irom the Valuer-General for £29, as the amount payable by the Board towards the cost of the valuation of their district, accompanied by a copy of the regulations under which the claim was made, from which it appeared that- the Board is charged with one-third, and consequently the total cost of the valuation of the district amounts -to £87. Resolved —That the Valuer-General be requested to inform the Board of the manner in which tins sum is made up, as it is more than double the amount whicii the valuation of the district has previously cost. It was resolved that the Waste Land Board be request-d to take steps to preserve the native bush on the Crown land which is still unsold on the Rockwood run, as in the event of this bush being cut down or destroyed, the supply of water in the Hororata river would be seriously affected, to the great injury of the district watered by it. It was resolved that a rate of one farthing in the £ be levied in accordance with the notice which had been duly advertised. It was decided to call for tenders for the supply of 250 yards of shingle on the Rakaia Mead road. Notice to clear gorse from roads wai ordered to be served on several ratepayers. The manager of the Hororata water races attended with his report, whicii was read and considered.
