Writing under date of August 6th, Messrs Peabody and Co., of New York, report that Australasian rates continue on a low basis, steamship rates to Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney being quoted at 20s and 10 per cent, primage, by sail 17s 6d and 5 per cent, primage. The United States and Australasia Steamship Company will despatch the s.s. Queen Louise for Australian, ports about September. The opposition steamer, the Lord Kelvin, is now loading, and will be despatched in a few days. New Zealand rates hold steady at 16£ cents per cubic foot, and 5 per cent, primage. The barque Star of the East will be despatched. for Auckland about August 15th.
