SMILES'S " SELF-HELP."

From an illustrated interview with Dr. Samuel Smiles in the "Temple Magazine" for July, we learn that no book of its kind has ever achieved such a remarkable reputation as " Self-Help." Not far short of a quarter of a million of copies have been sold in this country, and the work has been translated into seventeen languages. Yet, strangely enough (says the " Westminster Budget"), it was contemptuously refused by the first publisher to whom it was offered, and the refusal so discouraged the author that he allowed the manuscript to he in his desk for years, and did not care to publish it until he had established his reputation by his " Life bf George Stephenson."
