AMATEUR ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.
I The Council of the Association met oa ' ' Wednesday night. Present — Mese. Grierson (South Canterbury), H. Fro* (Hawke's Bay), Batchelor (Waikato), 0. Hood Williams fAshburton), Macbeth (Dunedin), J. H. Wood (Auckland), W, Tonks (Auckland), J. S. Hawkes (Wangaaia), ,W. Bergh (Hardware), T. Skelton (Gistrora.), !L. W. Harley (Wellington), P. 8-ljg (Hawke's Bay), G. B. Ritchie (Auckland). T. Bunting (Wanganui), Dr. Jensiagi (North Shore), Dr. Tliomas (Thames). A telegram was received from J. Mc« Naught, Wanganui, stating that a asm, amateur athletic club had been formed there, to be affiliated to the A. A. A. A letter was read from the Cyclists' Alliance, stating that in accordance with the request of the Association, they had removed the disqualifica- j ; tion from the athletic members of the | various cycling clubs forming the League of Wheelmen. The balance-sheet of the Wanganui Champion Meeting was read by the i Secretary, who stated that there was a ! credit balance of £122 Bs, which was divided between the Cyclists' Alliance, the Wanganui Club, and the A. A. A. The Secretary reported that they had placed £100 to the credit of the Association in the P.O. Savings Bank, and there was also a balance of £30 in the Bank. Some discussion ensued with y regard'to the items in the balance-sheet of ~ "lap prizes" and "entertaining." Ultimately// the balance-sheet, as submitted, was adopted, on the motion of Mr Hood Williams, seconded by Mr Selk. Mr Selig moved— "That a vote of thanks be recorded to the Wanganui officials and citizens foi the admirable mannei in which they canned out the Champion Meeting." He thought that amateurism had received a great lift there by the success which had attended the meeting. Mr Skelton seconded the motion, which was carried. On the motion of Dr. Jennings, seconded by Mr Bergh, the Council heartily congratu-i lated the Wanganui amateurs on the formation of a new Amateur Athietio Club, and •' wished it every .uece.a. A special meeting of the Association was then held to consider a notice of motion given, by Mr H. Frost—" That all the wcrds . after N.Z.A.A.A. in the following rule (No. 12) be struck out:—"No person shall be allowed to compete while under sentience of suspension passed by the N.Z.A.A.A., N.Z. Cyclists' Alliance, N.Z. Amateur Swimming Association, or any other recognised Amateur Athletic, Cycling and Swimming Association.'" Messrs Selig and Mcßeth opposed the motion, while the Chairman referred to the benefit that amateur sport generally derived from the connection of the different amateur bodies. The motion waa lost by 14 votes to 2, the two delegates from the old Wanganui Club not voting. The meeting then terminated.
