The head master, Mr E. U. Just, who made the preseuta' ion, congratulated Mr Waller on his pron otion. On a neat little silver plate let into the bat was the following inscription :— " 1898. Presented to F. D. Waller from the teachers of the Lyttelton Borough School." On Tuesday afternoon the journalistic staff of the "Lyttelton Times " presented Mr T. Clarkson with a complete set of cutlery and silver ware and a tea service as a memento of his recent marriage. The presentation was made by the editor of the " Canterbury Times." On Tuesday evening advantage was taken of Detective Benjamin's visit to Christchurch by the police force to make him a handsome presentation. The ceremony took place in the police library room, when, on behalf of the whole of the local force, SergeantMajor Ramsay handed to Mr Benjamin a silver mounted pipe and umbrella, both suitably inscribed. In making the presentation the Sergeant-Major referred to the good fellowship which had always existed between Mr Benjamin and all his co-workers, and wished him success in his new abode. The recipient suitably acknowledged the kindness of those present. Detective Benjamin left for Napier last night after a short visit to Christchurch.
