HUNTING.
The South Canterbury Hounds met at Sourndale Hunter on Monday last. A start was made in front of the homestead, and after a few short runs the field joined in one of the best runs of the season, lasting over an hour and a quarter, and during which about fifty fences were negotiated. Puss was at last brought to book in the home paddock not far from the start, those in at the kill being Messrs H. Elworthy, R. Dailey and J. McPherson. Among the field the following were noticeably straight f ocrs :—Messrs H. Elworthy on Pareora, P. Elworthy on Trust, H. Jones on Brannigan, J. McPherson on Typo, C. Myers on Greywood, and R. Da ley on Scallywag. The acting master (Mr Jamieson) rode Sam, the huntsman Skylark, and the whip Cuba. After the kill an adjournment was made to the house, where the genial host (Mr Hunter Morris) had prepared an excellent repast.
