FIRES.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS.) OAMARU, June 2. Messrs McCallum and Co.'s woodware factory and timber yards were partly destroyed by fire at an early hour this morning. There is no clue as to how the fire originated, as when the engineer went through the place at eight the previous night everything was safe. The greater part of the building was destroyed, and the machinery was greatly damaged, a large quantity of manufactured articles also being burnt. The loss is estimated at between £3000 and £4000, and there was no insurance. DUNEDIN, June 2. A six-roomed house, owned by Mrs McLeod, at Pleasant Valley, near Palmerston, was destroyed by fire early this morning, with nearly the whole of the contents. The house was insured in the National Office for £250, and the furniture in the Imperial for £150.
