FOOTBALL.
CANTERBURY RUGBY UNION. The committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union met on Tuesday evening at the Claren don Hotel. Present—Messrs G. H. Mason (in the chair), F. T. Evans, F. E. Asquith, J. Scott, F. M. Carr, H. Frost, W. G. Garrard (hon. sec.) and Captain Meikleham. A reply was received from the secretary of the Linwood Club enclosing a letter from H. W. Woodham positively denying the charge of having used bad language to the line umpire in the Linwood-Sydenham match. The matter was held over pending further enquiry. A referee, writing from Dunsandel, asked whether he was correct in awarding a free kick to one side when one of their men was intentionally and without necessity thrown by a man of the opposing side, after the ball had been put down. The committee considered that as the referee was satisfied this was a case of obstruction his ruling was correct. The secretary submitted a quantity ol information concerning the best methods of arranging the fixtures of the representative team in the North Island tour. After some discussion it was decided to appoint Messrs Mason and Evans and the secretary as a sub-committee to go into the matter and report. lb was arranged to play the senior matches next Saturday as follows :—Linwood v Albion and Christchurch v Sydenham, both at Sydenham Park ; Merivale v Kaiapoi, at Lancaster Park. The junior flag match Merivale v Christchurch will ako be played at Lancaster Park.
Yesterday a team, representing the third club of the Marist Bros.' school, met and defeated the third club of the Waltham school by 20 points to nil. J. McAleer, A. Mills, R. McAleer, A. Hoy (captain) and J. Woodham played well for the winners.
