WOOLSTON BOROGH COUNCIL.

The Council met on Thursday evening, Present—The Mayor, Crs. Milne, Tanner. Thomas, Hobson, Colwill, Andrews, Garland and Lord. The Secretary United Friendly Societies fund asked the patronage of the Council for the 24th inst. Agreed to. The ' question of levelling the Canal reserve was held over for a month. The Works Committee was authorised to report.as to what I improvements are necessary in Princes" I street. A complaint that certain parties ' had been outtiDg turf ou one of the side > streets was referred to the Chairman of the Works Committee and the clerk. A com- - plaint having been made regarding the growth of weeds in the river Heathcote, it was resolved to call the attention of the Drainage Board to the subjeot. The estimates of receipts and expenditure -. for the current year were adopted. On the motion of Crs. Thomas and Lord it was resolved that the wages of the p.rmanenfc . men be increased to 7s per day, and casual - men when employed be placed on the same ' footing. It was resolved that the cleri ■ arrange with Mr Andrews for the supply of 2000 yards of metal, to be supplied as required. A. committee was appointed to ascertain what extra lamps are necessary itf '.'.■ the borough. Mr Tanner gave notice that he would move that the following rates be struck for the current year, viz. :—A general rate of three farthings in the £, a charitable aid rate of five thirty-Beconds of a penny in -> the £, a drainage rate of three farthings in the.£, and a Waimakariri river rate of five sixty-fourths of a penny in the £.
