THE VOLUNTEERS.

In connection with the manoeuvres on the Queen's birthday, the city corps of the battalion will parade at 9.45 a.m. at the Drillshed. The Rangiora and Kaiapoi Rifles will march to the Drillshed on the arrival of the train.

Instructions have been issued to officers commanding corps to read out to their corps the clauses in the Volunteer Regulation* which prohibit the giving of information regarding the defences of the colony to •anyone not connected with the defence forces.

There was an excellent muster of the Cycle Corps last evening at drill. The men went through their work excellently under Staff-Sergeant-Major Barrett. The City Guards held a Government parade last evening in the Drillshed; Captain Cressvrell and Lieutenant Bishop were in charge. There was a muster of about 40. The Imperial Riiies held their first annual social last evening in the Orderly Room, when there was a muster of about 60 members. Captain Charlewrood w:is in ihe chair, and there were present —Captains Cresswell and Dougall, Captain Palairet, Lieu-tenant-Commander Joyce, Lieutenants Neave, Merton, Marciel, and Holderness, Mr A. J. Merton (bandmaster Garrison Band), Cliief Petty Officer Toomey, Ser-geant-Majors Foster, Treleaven and Berland, Quartet-Master Sergeant Miller, Sergeaut Colclough.and representatives of nearly every corps in tli,e district, and Messrs Geo. Humphreys and W. Cuthbert, M.I.C.E. After the" toast of "The Queen," the Chairman proposed the health of "The District and Battalion Staffs." The other toasts were "Kindred Corps," proposed by Lieutenant Marciel, responded to by Captaine Cresswell and Dougall, Lieutenant-Com-mander Joyce, Lieutenants Merton and Neave; "The Visitors," proposed by Lieutenant Holderness, responded to by Mr Humphreys; "The Press." During the evening items were oiven byCaptam Dougall, Lieutenants Marciel and Holderness, Corporal Cordey, Mr Cuthbert, and others.

(press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, May 20. The Civil Service Volunteer corps, which has been accepted by the Government, now numbers seventy-eight. The Post and Telegraph Department are forming a corps and have asked the Government to-accept their services.
