(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, May 20. Mr A. H. Johnston, who has been appointed signal engineer to the New Zealand railways, has kad considerable experience in England and the United States, and it will be his duty to design and develop a uniform scheme of interlocking points and signals, an improvement in the present system having been found absolutely necessary. The signal cabins in use will be fitted up with more modern appliances, and the number increased. Extensive set plans are preparing, and the first steps towards the new installation will be taken in the Wellington yards. (PROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.) WELLINGTON, May 20. Mr A. H. Johnston comes out to in" augurate a new signalling and point blocking system. He has a three years , engagement with the Railway Department. He has had great experience in such matters, and appears to be a very capable man. The probability is that after he has put the new system into thorough working order he will return to the old country. He, is the inventor of many patents in connection with railways from which he derives a considerable income.
