ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
About midday yesterday a lady who was crossing the street opposite Morton's buildings was knocked down by a bicyclist, who merely apologised and passed on without dismounting to enquire whether the lady was hurt. She fortunately escaped with a severe shaking, but from the force of her fall it is a wonder that she was not more seriously injured. Accidents of a similar nature are now reported daily, and it behoves the authorities to adopt some stringent measures to regulate the traffic for the protection of pedestrians who have occasion to use the street crossings. There is no denying the fact that the careless way in which some cyclists scorch through the principal streets and are allowed to go scot free has simply become a disgrace. While Miss Hurse, mistress of Kirikiri School, West Oxford, was riding her bicycle on Thursday evening, a stone upset the machine, and her left arm was broken at the elbow.
