THE WEATHER.

The strong wind and high tide on Sunday evening caused a backing up of the Avon and Heathcole rivers, resulting 'in the low lying lands at the Heathcote and on each side of the Ferry road being flooded. The water rose to the level of the floors about several cottages, and the inmates were preparing to move their belongings when, on the turn of the tide the waters felL In the New Brighton district the "Avon overflowed its banks, and below the tram bridge the water reached the floors of some of the houses in the immediate vicinity. The very heavyeea along the coast and flowing in to the Waimakanri is expected to improve the navigation of the bar. The Emma Sims and Rock Lily have been waiting for some time to get away to eea. '"
