BRITISH IMPORTS AND EXPORTS.

London, May 8. The British Board of Trade returns show that the imports for April increased by £5,810,000, and the exports decreased by £2,204,000 compared with the previous April. BRITISH TRQQPS FOR SIERRA LEONE. There are three warships at Free-

town, in Sierra Leone. Three more have been ordered to proceed to the station, and will carry 700 regular troops to reinforce the military force. TELEGRAPHIC CONNECTION. Capetown, May 8. Blantyre and Umtali, in British South Africa, have been connected by telegraph.

Sir Franois Ford, who retires from the position of British Ambassador at Rome, will be succeeded by Sir Phillip Carrie, British Ambassador at Constantinople.
