Fma Association—By Telegraph—Copyright
Ottawa, May 27. In the House of Commons Sir Charles Tupper moved a hostile amendment to the new Tariff Bill. He contended that Mr Fielding, ml proposing that Canadashouidextendthe reciprocal tariff to any country entitleto it under the treaty with . Great Britain, destroyed the vaunted concession to Great Britain. The members of the Government replied that if the existing commercial treaties between Great; Britain, Germany and Belgium applied to Canada, Lord Salisbury must denounce those treaties because they imposed a dangerous limitation on Canada's power to raise revenue, and also because they had been concluded without the assent of Canada. May 28. Sir Charles Tupper's amendment was negatived by 74 to 42. Berlin, May 27. The newspapers are exhibiting considerable uneasiness in respeot to the Canadian tariff proposals.
