THE MEMBER FOR AVON.
* TO TH* BDITOft OF THB MUMS. Biß,—When Mr Tanner commenced bis Mtiea of pre-sensional addresses I ventured to forecast in your columns that he would, in.deference to public opuiou, take up the tok of "independent member." This wan (ally verified at New Brighton, where he had the hardihood to asaerb that " the Government did not look upon him as a •Upporter," and that "hewasau independent member 1" Fortunately Mr Beddon and hie ' boots were not within reach. But, after all, I tuppoae even "dumb dogs" are allowed a certain amount of freedom outiide the Walla of Parliament. The New Brighton people have a grievance in the indiguily cast upon them by bunging down a policeman to the meeting, as •uoh gatherings have always been most orderly there. The " confidence " trick was not ventured on either at New Brighton or Eyrttoo, ehowing that the defeat of the coutikUooe motion at Burwood had a farreaobiDg tflfeof.—Your», &0., Eckotor.
