RAILWAY TO CHEVIOT.
TO TUB EDITOR 0? THE PBKS3. S«a, — the proposition that the Governmeut 'should purchase the laud through ffeioh the laiiway to Chevioo would ruu. Wore making the iiue, evidently found my slight favour in the eyes of tne member* of tho Chamber of Commerce; and Mr Laureueoo appears to have had rather a b»d quarter ot an hour. But I quite believe no will still hold to hie opinion, and hope that any resolution proponed to contend a railway from public funds, which Would immensely increase the value of the laud And make its acquisition by the State jrfpre d fticult, will be met by him, apparently the on y Liberal member of the Utrnmber, by a counter resolution, even •Übounh he may again fail to find auyoue to aeoond it. . The various Liberal associations could not take up a better cause thau the acquisition of these estates, at present value, and the oonstraotion of a railway. Employment would bo plentiful all along the Hue, aud the expenuitnre on the railway wou'd be recouped to the country by th« increased rentals fairly chargeable on tthelanJ.—Yours, &c, JOYCB. .June lstt - - - ' •'■ " ' *-"-•
