LOSING THEIR FLEECES.

The Temuka Leader reports that several sheep in that district are losing their fleeces without any apparent cause. The sheep appear healthy, and in good condition, and there is no appearance of any skin disease.

LAND FOR SETTLEMENT. A Press Association telegram from Wellington states chat the Government has acquired the Opouriao estate for purposes of settlement. The property ia situated about ten miles from the mouth of the Whakatane river, Bay of Plenty, and consists of 6704 acres. It belongs to the Opouriao Estate Company, who are prepared to hand over possession to the Government on the 31st January next. In the meantime surveys for subdivision will be mile. The estate includes some very rich flit land. It will be subdivided into farms of 100 to 150 acres, and will be disposed of on lease in perpetuity.
