CYCLING NOTES.
(Weekly Press and Referee.) By Velox. Oa May 10th W. Hallam, a brother of the champion of Tasmania, reduced the 100 yds record of Tasmania to 6hrs 58min, the previous record being 7hrs omin by H. Baily, made about a month ago, W. Hallam, who had no pace-makers, has only been riding about five months. Yet another new motor for cycles, which it is thought will create a great sensation when placed bsfore the public. The inventor—a Londoner—has not quite completed his tests, and therefore does not divulge the nature of the motor, which, however, is neither derived from steam, electricity, oil, nor gis. The power is stored in a small, n_rrow case which can be strapped to the top tuba of any existing machine. An intermediate gear accompanies the motor, and the whole affair can be attached or detached in a few minutes. The cost of the motor will probably be 2gs, and it can be applied to any machine. Even when fitted to the machine the motor can be switched on or off by merely pressing a button, so that when the exercise is desired it may be obtained at will. The whole attachment weighs about 51b. Latest. English files state that Zimmerman has cabled accepting to ride against the Belgian crack, Houben, over three distances for £1000 a side. Should Houben be willing to bind the match, "Zimmy" will not be seen in Australia this year after all.
