January 4. The Bank of England returns pub. lished to-day show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £23,972,000, the proportion of reserve to liabilities being 53.34. Consols, 104. . Three months , bills are discounted at f per cent. New South Wales Four per Cent, Inscribed Stock, 10S} ; Three and a Half per Cent, do, 10u£. Victorian Four per Cents., 102 ; Three and a Half do, 93. . South Australian Four per Cents., 106*; Three and a Half do, 100*. Queensland Four per Cents, IC6; Three and a Half do, 97&. Taamanian Three and a Half per Cents., 99. Western Australian Four per Cents., 111. New Zealand Four per Cents., 1061; Three and a Half do, 100$. New Zealand long-berried wheat, ex warehouse, 25s 9d, firm; South Australian do, 25a 6d, firm; Victorian do, 255, steady.
Hemp is unchanged. Sugar—Beat German beet, 3s 9d; Java, 11s 9d, quiet. Mo. 1 beet Scotch pig iron, io.b., a Clyde, 41a 6d, fiat.
