RANGITIKEI RACES.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) ■-■-. BULLS. January a . Following are the results of the concluding races at the Rangitikei Meeting -yesterday:—Shorts Handicap—Gunboat 1, Cheque 2, KalmeaS. Time, Itnin 3 3-oth sec. Dividend, £5 18s. Consolation Race —Musket 1, Pihanga 2. These were the only starters. Dividend, £1 19*. The Press Association forward the following introductory remarks on Wednesday's racing:—"The concluding day's racing of the Auckland Racing Club's Meeting' was held .at Eilerslie / to-day. Glorious Weather prevailed, and the attendance was large, fully 7000 people being' present. In the Ascot Handicap Eve and St. Laura fell, but both the riders escapsd uninjured. Tho racing throughout the day was interesting, the finishes being most exciting. The defeat of Bloodshot by his stable companion Blue Fire came as a great surprise to the public, who .had. made the former a very warm favourite, more particularly as Derrett was' riding Bloodshot. Much hostile feeling was shown, and the Stewards finally decided to hold an enquiry. The Press not being admitted the exact nature of the proceedings cannot be given, but It is understood that Mr Stead fully satisfied the Stewards and convinced them chat he, himself, had favoured . Blobdshot's chance. '; The Recovery Stakes had to be run twice owing to ft flight of hurdles being left across the course. Some of the horses' jumped the obstacle and others went through it, Lord Duniuce fell and dislodged his rider." The racehorse Prime Warden, in charge of M. Hobbs, arrived, from' the North by the steamer Takapuna yesterday morning. Nominations for, the Wellington Racing Club's Summer Meeting close to-night.
