WAIMAKARIRI ASHLEY WATER SUPPLY BOARD.

A special meeting of the Board was held on Monday. Mr John O'Halloran occupied the- chair, and all the members were present. The following resolutions were unanimously adopted :—" Thab for the purpose of paying the interest on and providing a fund for the payment of the. sum of £3000 borrowed, or about to be borrowed under the provisions of the WaimakaririAshley Water Supply Board Act, 1894, the Waimakariri-Ashley Supply Board do hereby strike, impose, and levy a special annual recurring rate of one-tenth of a penny in the pound on a uniform scale upon the rateable value of all lands in the Wai-makariri-Ashley Water Supply District liable or subject to taxation by virtue of the provisions oi tbe Water Supply Act, 1891, and the Waimakariri Supply Act, 1894. as appearing in the valuation roll of the said district for the time being in force, such special rate to be an annual recurring rate, commencing on the Ist day of April, 1895, and payable at the office of the Board in equal half-yearly instalments on the first days of April and October in every year ootil the borrowed money in respect of which rate is made shall be paid off." " That the above resolution, when confirmed as a special order, shall tace effect immediately upon such confirmation." After resolving to hold a special meeting, on January 31ao the meeting terminated. \ The adjourned ordinary meeting was then held. A letter was read from Mr R. Meredith with reference to the diversion of water from the Cost stream. The following resolution was carried:—f'Thafc the Board, having the power conferred by the Water Supply Amendment Act, 1894, to deal with the water in the Cost stream, propose in the fiture to deal with the question of the diversion of water from that stream, aud refuse to acknowledge the right of the Springbank estate Or any other property to divert water as they are at present doing." It was resolved that Mr Meredith's letter should be acknowledged, and a copy of the resolution be forwarded to him; also that the attention of the Trustees of the Springbank estate be directed to tbe powers conferred upon the Board by the provisions of the Water Supply Act Amendment Act, 1894, and to the fact that this Board will be com-' pelled to take notice of the diversion of the water from the Cust stream in the near future." It was resolved—"That tbe attention of Mr Marmaduke Dixon be directed to tbe powers conferred upon the Board by tbe Water Supply Act Amendment Act, 1894, and to the fact that the Board will be compelled to take notice of the diversion of water from the Waimakariri in the near future" * also " that tbe Rangiora Borough Council be communicated with and asked if they would require any water; if so what amount and what they were prepared to pay for it." After dealing with routine business the meeting terminated.
