SYDENHAM COUNCIL.
The Sydenham Borough Council met at 7. p.m. last night. Present—The Mayor, and Crs. Hadfield, Forrester, Clifford, Muffett, Cutler, McLennan, Caygill, McMillan, and Lightbody. Apologies were received for the absence of Crs. Smith, Rudd, and Biltcliffe. Letters concerning the holding of a meeting to decide upon the weekly half-holiday were held over.
The Finance Committee's report was adopted. It stated that the receipts had amounted to £372 8s lid, and reoommended for payment accounts amounting to £350 lls6d; ; The Rate Collector was instructed to interview defaulters. The question of sinking a deep well at Sandridge was deferred until the next estimates were under cpnsideraton. Cr. Muffetb's notice.of motion re the recision of the delegation of powers of the Council was lost by five votes to four. Cr. Lightbody was elected to the Works Committee, and Cr. McLennan made its Chairman, '" The Lighting Committee were empowered to act as advisable in the matter of lighting lamps on the Madras street bridge. lb was decided to communicate with the police concerning damage to a lamp in .Walbham road, and the congregation of youths round lamp posts at street corners. The Town Clerk was instructed to write to the managers of the Fire Insurance Com. panics doing business iv Christchurch and Sydenham, asking them if they were prepared to do insurance business in Sydenham at the rate prevailing in 1894. The meeting closed shortly before 10 p.m.
