(PRESS ASSOCIATION TEIiEdRAM.) NELSON, January 2. At an Oddfellows' meebing in Nelson to-night a letter was read from the Federated Seamen's Union, asking Friendly Society members to sign a petition to Parliament to do away with the Union Steamship Company's Members' Benefit Society; also a letter from the latter's Society refuting the statements iv the Seamen's Union's letter. It was resolved to refer both to the Parliamentary Vigilance Committee, composed of representatives of all the Friendly Societies in the district,..with instructions to investigate snd power to take action in getting signatures or otherwise.
