John McKenzie was this evening installed Chief of' the Gaelic* Society. In the course of his remarks the Minister referred to evictions in Scotland, and said thoy would have a Lands for Settlement Act there. After he retired from office he hoped to be able to revisit Scotland, aud address them on the land question. INVERCARGILL, January 2. It is reported thab the Japanese Government are in treaty for the. purchase of the s.s. Port Melbourne, now at the Bluff.
