WELLINGTON, February 27.

The Government are collecting information about the production of fruit in New Zealand, and the charges for carriage by rail, with a view to laying it before the Commissioners,, to see whether the rates cannot be reduced to allow New Zealand growers to compete better with Australia. The Premier has written to the Shipping Companies about the alleged delay in forwarding dairy produce, and received a reply that every provision will be made for prompt despatch.
