Private advices from Ballarat favour Brociaerton's chinee for the Newmarket Handicap, but Elswick is under a slight cloud. Wnkawatea is credited with having traversed a really excellent six furlongs at Caulffeld ou Saturday. Betting has beeu brisk ab Bowes* Tattersall's today. After 1200 to 90 had beeu taken about Fortunatus, 1000 to 80 was offered. Hova was supported to win J--000 at 100 to 6. 1000 to 65 was taken about Lord Hopetoun, and 100 to 6 about Capstan. 600 to 21 was accepted about Tullatnore, and then 500 to 25 was taken, the betting closiag with 1003 to 50 offered and 1000 to 45 wanted. The Arab was booked to win 1200 at 100 to 4. A wager of 400 to 21 was taken about Parramatta aud 500 to 15 about Galllardia. J.S. was backed to win 1000 down to 100 to 3. About Swordbearer 500 to 5 was taken and then 800 to 2 was laid.
