The stormiest meeting ever held by a Hc.rbour Board Committee was that which took place yesterday afternoon, when the Legal and Finance Committee considered th« annual address of the late Chairman, Mr W. Mr "S. Danbar Johnson, who ha 3 lately bean acting as clerk and interpreter to the Native Land Court, in the; Auckland district, will leave for Wellington on Monday morning, having been appointed to succeed Mr H. F. fidger (recently appointed J u.dge) as Registrar of the Native Land Court there. Mr Johnson was formerly in the Native office, Wellington, and was subsequently appointed as Government agent at Rotorua, which position he held at the time of the Tarawera eruption. For seme time past his home has been at Tβ Aroha where his family at present reside. Mr Johnson is a very excellent officer of the Native Department. Mr Herbert Jones, F.R.G.S., London, is , at present in Auckland. Mr Jones, who is a lecturer and journalist, was here about tsm yeais ago making a tour of the colony, collecting data for lectures in the Mother Country before the leading societies. Part of his mission is to collect data for a series of articles on Australasian matters in leading English" journals and magazines. Another object is the preparation of the "New Zealand Illustrated Handbook and South Sea Guide," beiDg a compendium of information concerning the history, geography, geology, flora and fauna, the Maori race, climate, industries, institutions, and resources of New Zealand, with the special features of the islands of f;he Pacific. His enterprise has received the approval of the Agent-General and the Government, and mauy of the leading men of the colony, including Sir Geo. Grey.
