The Bank of England returns, published to-day, show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be £22,602,000, the proportion of reserve to liabilites being 60*20 per cent. Consols, 99£. Three moachs' bills are discounted at 2 per cent. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, three and a half do., 99. New Zealand longberried wheat, ex warehouse, 27s 6d; market weaker. South Australian do., 28s 6d; Victorian do., 28s. New Zealand mutton, first quality, 4fjd ; second quality, ; lamb, 6^d. Sugar, best German beet, 13a; Java, 15a 6d; market quiet. No. 1 best Scotch pig-iron, f.0.b., in Clyde, 43s 3d. Adelaide honey, 10d. February 24. The sale of £30,000 worth of silver hai disorganised the market, and caused Friday's quotations to drop to 2e per oz. Colonial butter is quoted at 114s per cwt. . _..' Rabbifc skins are in poor demand at a decline of from Id to 2d. The London Dack Company is making the experiment of discharging frozen meat direct from steamers to the frozen meat stores. Hitherto the practice has been to distribute the meat to consignees, but it is believed that under the new system steamers can be discharged in three days instead of three week*, thus reducing the expense and expediting delivery. The New Zealand Land Association, Limited, has received the following London cable message, dated 23rd February :— Frozen Meat—Mutton market quiet. Canterbury mutton is worth 4fd per lb. Other quotations unchanged since last telegram. Lamb market quiet. Quotations unchanged since last telegram. Tallow—Quotations unchanged since last; telegram.
