PICNICS.

Th« annual picnic of the employee* of the Christchurch branch of the D.I.C. was held yesterday. About 150 excursionists were taken to Rhodes' Bay by the 8. a. John Anderson. Mr Gardner had kindly placed his grounds at the disposal of the visitors, where races were run and numerous games were indulged in. The party returned to town by the 7.15 train, having thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The employees of the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative held their annual picnic at Rhodes' Bay. A large number were taken by the as. Akaroa. A tug ofwar married v single was won by the benedicts, after a hard tussle.

The members of the Chriatchurch Fire Brigade held their annual picnic yesterday at Diamond Harbour. There was a large attendance. The party went over in the i. s. John Anderson, and as the day was perfect for such an outing they enjoyed themselves thoroughly. A number of races were gob off during the day. Mr Bonnington acted as judge, Lieut. E. Smith as secretary, and •Superintendent Turton as general supervisor. The races resulted as follow*:— Married Men's Race, Foreman J. McMillan, prize silver chronometer presented by Mr J. W. Miller; Single Men's Race, J. Fraser 1, a silver watch, W. Jury 2, a pipe; Married Women's Race, Mrs Atkinson 1, Mrs Winstone 2; Single Women's Race, Miss Frame 1. A silver watch given by Mr King, Colombo street, for the Deluge Company was won by Mr J. Miller. The employees of Messrs Whitcombe and Tombs and those of the D.I.C. held their annual picnics yesterday at Diamond Harbour and Rhodes' Bay respectively, and succeeded in enjoying themselves thoroughly. The annual picuie of the Zealandia Boot Factory (Skelton, Frostick and Co.) was held at Diamond Harbour on the 17th inst., a large number being present. The principal race was won by E. J. Wills, W. Bastion being second. Single men's race, H. Kilburn 1, H. Forrester 2; single ladies', Miss F. Charles 1, Miss A. Hicks 2. A large number of other races were run during the day. Toys were liberally distributed among the children.
