CHINESE MISSION IN MELBOURNE.
Last Tuesday afternoon the Bishop of Melbourne., Dr. Goe, laid the foundationstone of a new building, to be called the Chinese Church aud Training Home. This edifice is being erected under tho auspices of the Church of England Board of Missioua to the Chinese resident in Victoria, and the funds have been supplied from collections ainoug the Victorian Chinese and European friends of the Mission, supplemented largely by a splendid effort tit a special Chinese bazaar, held lately in the 'Jt'owu Hall. This resulted in nearly £700 being added to the money in' hand. The intention is that young Chineae or half-castes shall bo provided with a liberal and religious training, bo that those who show exceptional fitness may be trained for mission work, not only among their fellow-countrymen here, but in theu- native land also should they return to China. The success of this effort to meet the religious wants of the Chinese iia Victoria is mainly due to the liberality of the Yen. Archdeacon Williams, of Chriatchurch, New Zealand, whose gift of £400 enabled the Board to secure the site, and who gave a farther contribution ot £1 for'every £2 locally subscribed, amounting so Jar toanother £600. , ..
