Tha General Labour Conference has decided to follow the example of the Shearers' Conference in refusing to receive or produce references. Brisbane, February 22. The Labour Federation Congress has closed its sittings. A scheme was adopted for the establishment of a communal settlement in Australia, and it was decided to carry it into practi- ;. cal effect as soon a» possible. It was y aleo resolved to approach the Em- : ployera' Ooion.with the view of forming a joint Conciliation Board. A deputation of members of the General Assembly interviewed tbe Actiug Postmaster-General and requested the insertion of a condition in the new mail contracts prohibiting the employment of coloured labour on steamers. The Minister replied that there was very little hope of adopting this course unless the other colonies and the Imperial Government were willing to support it. He would lay '. the matter before the Cabinet.
