ADDINGTON YARDS.
£0 THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —I understand that the annual meeting of the Canterbury Saleyards Company takes place to-morrow. I therefore ask your permission to use your columns for the purpose of imploring—not only on my own account, but also in the interest of others —the Directorate to make some alteration in the method of classing lambs at Addington Yards. The lamb season is. now in full swing, and in consequence a great part of the day is spent in dragging through hundreds of pens of not even half fat lambs to the detriment of the fat sheep market, which has to follow. Did the Directors not once decide that lambs should be classed, and why not do it ? Am las a seller of fat sheep to continually have my stock put up to a scanty few about five o'clock in the afternoon, after many freezing buyera have already gone home by train ? I can do far Letter by selling in the paddock, and if things are not remedied I must sell at Home. Of course we all know there are difficulties in the way, but difficulties are not, I presume, insurmountable only in Addington Yards. More than half of the lambs now privileged to be sold as fat should not be admitted into fat pens. Seeing that they are divided off into pens of five and ten, no wonder a long and tedious delay always results. Sir, some alteration must be made, and I hope, it will be done to-morrow. I ;: am not, ajaul 'said before, alone in my views, and the need for alteration has frequently beeh pointed out by that straight and level-headed - Writer " Straggler," of the Weelfly Press. But no one in authority moves. Wo have waited long; I hope we' won't wait beyond tomorrow. With thanks, 1 am, &c, Eopeful. ~ Rakaia, 12th February.
